The Sofia Triennial of Architecture was held from 13 to 16 May at the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy under the auspices of the International Academy of Architecture (IAA) and the Union of Architects of Bulgaria. The festival is held under the patronage of UNESCO and is focused on the most pressing problems of the development of modern architecture. This time the participants discussed the topic "Sustainable architecture". Sections and conferences devoted to various aspects of green building were held by Fumihiko Maki, Daniel Libeskind and many other masters of world architecture. Russia at the Sofia Triennial was represented by Andrey Chernikhov, Mikhail Khazanov, Mikhail Mamoshin, Yuri Vissarionov and other famous designers.
In accordance with the theme of this year, the nominations of the competition were also selected: 162 submitted projects competed for the awards "Interarch-2012" in the sections "Architectural structures of the future", "Sustainable cities", "Innovation and traditional architecture", "Architectural identity", "Architecture and ecology ". Predictably, Bulgarian architects predominated among the winners of the triennial, but their Russian colleagues were also awarded with festival awards. In the nomination "Architecture and Ecology" the jury of the festival noted the projects
boarding house "Yuzhny" in Sochi and a sanatorium in the suburbs of PTAM Yuri Vissarionov. Both of these objects are most delicately and accurately inscribed in the relief and favorably emphasize the beauty and plasticity of the existing landscape.
Another project of this workshop was awarded the Silver Medal "Interarch-2012". Experts awarded the concept of an urban multifunctional public center in Ufa for an original architectural solution, developed taking into account the peculiarities of the existing landscape: a complex with two gate towers is designed at the entrance to the city, on the high bank of the river, and its stylobate part is hidden in the picturesque folds of the natural relief.
Russian architect Leonid Zvukov from Sochi became the laureate of the Gold Medal "Interarch-2012", who presented to the international court the already built complex of the eco-spa hotel "Mercury" in Dagomys, the main planning idea of which was also the maximum fusion of landscape and architecture.
