It is located in the Marunouchi business district, next to the main train station. The building of the Central Post Office of the early 1930s served as a podium for the 200-meter skyscraper, but now this institution has moved to a new part of the building.
It also houses the 7-story Kitte (postage stamp) mall, the Japan Post Bank headquarters, and a museum with exhibits (including ancient Egyptian mummies) from the University of Tokyo. The rest of the space is given over to rented offices. The 38-storey building has a total area of 220,000 m2.
The origami-inspired façade consists of 3 layers of glazing, solar panels, a green roof, and cooling towers. Recall that this is not Jan's first skyscraper for the postal department: one of his most famous works is
Deutsche Post tower in Bonn.
