The Creative Moscow competition of ideas and art objects was organized by the Architect news agency. The participants were given three tasks: first, to develop a concept-manifesto - an example of an architectural solution for a space for a cultural institution. Secondly, the authors had to do this using the example of the space of the Central House of Architects (Central House of Architects, Moscow, Granatny, 9) and the annex to the Architect restaurant. And finally, part of the proposed solution was to be one or more art objects capable of decorating such a cultural space in general and the courtyard of the Central House of Artists in particular. One of the requirements for the authors was to offer solutions related to multimedia technologies.
At the end of April, the jury selected seven best projects from all the proposed architectural solutions - options for solving the courtyard space and an extension to the restaurant.
On the other hand, six art objects proposed by the nominees will be implemented and shown within the framework of the Green City of the Future ecological week, which will begin in the Bolshoi Manezh on May 17. Namely:
- Installation "Wood 8 bit". Ilya Kopychina, Alexandra Gladysheva.
- Installations "Wall", "Northern Lights", "Plasticine City". Alexandra Gladysheva.
- Installation "Quorum". Mikhail Toporov.
- Installation "Prirogogorod". Vera Kolgashkina
The installation "Wood 8 Bit" by Ilya Kopychin and Alexandra Gladysheva is planned to be installed in the courtyard of the Central House of Artists under the roof of the annex to the "Architect" restaurant. The “tree” includes many screens on which any information can be broadcast. At the moment, this is the only object that is scheduled for implementation based on the results of the competition.
Below we publish seven projects of the shortlist, including the art objects proposed by the authors.
1. Stove
Author: Alexandra Gladysheva
The author calls his task to create an environment for informal and warm communication between two generations of architects: teachers and students. Unity is symbolized by the Russian stove, the material embodiment of warmth; the stove becomes the central organizing element of the yard. Since there is a stove in the House (of the architect), then there must be a Kitchen, the author believes. The architect's kitchen is a metaphorical name for the space inside the courtyard of the Central House of Artists, where it would be possible to have “healthy, casual communication free from prejudices”.
Alexandra Gladysheva proposed several options for art objects, one of which, let us remind you - "8 bit tree" (in the picture on the left), is planned to be implemented in the courtyard of the Central House of Artists.
2. Point of interaction
Author: Vera Kolgashkina
According to the author, "the architectural expression of this concept can be a multifunctional pavilion-installation, which includes a terraced podium where you can sit, communicate, listen to a lecture or participate in an event and vertical planes for exhibitions and media projections." An important role in the formation of the image of an object is played by media equipment and various lighting. The object - the "Prirodogorod" installation was also selected for implementation in the Manezh.
3. Quorum
Author: Mikhail Toporov
Mikhail Toporov submitted to the competition only the art object selected for display in the Manege.
The bench, which looks like a children's carousel from the 1980s, is a metal stand with a bearing, on which a round shield made of simple wooden boards is installed, the diameter of which allows up to several people to be stacked on the platform at the same time. The round shield rotates around its own axis at the slightest application of energy (untwisting). The plots of unwinding are varied and limited by the imagination of the participants: you can lie down, rotate and look into the sky the shield can be used as a stand for chess, books, bottles, glasses.
According to the author, a retrospective look shows that the shop was used for philosophical conversations, readings, drinking wine, exercises in fine literature, cultural leisure, playing chess, checkers, etc. Each of these activities cannot be held without a proper quorum (in reverse translation from Latin into Russian the phrase "quorum praesentia sufficit" means "whose presence is enough"). The required quorum is recruited on a case-by-case basis.
4. ArtYard
Authors of the project: Alesya Medvedeva, Valeria Butorina, Polina Tsvetkova, Alina Vladimirova
According to the authors, the courtyard of the Central House of Artists could become “their place” for young architects, artists and designers - a territory where creative people could do what they love or just communicate in a comfortable environment. The art object is a frame that forms a streamlined volume. Inside the light translucent volume, there are several levels-steps on which you can relax or be creative.
5.inFA (factory of Architecture)
Authors: Anastasia Purtova, Yulia Baranova, Ekaterina Shirokova
The authors suggested using only intellectual currency on the territory of the courtyard: an hourly stay, search for information or the use of resources, anyone can pay with a contribution to the general fund of a certain amount of this or that useful information (drawings, coursework, photographs, etc.).
The amphitheater can be used as a lecture hall, cinema, or just be a place for socializing. Behind the amphitheater are more private capsule installations. The installation is an inverted hollow cylinder, inside which, according to the authors, with the help of media technologies it is possible to create a sense of presence in any chosen situation.
6. Infinity
Authors: Anastasia Yukhnevich, Kristina Kordyukova
According to the authors, infinity is "a striving, constant movement, variability, plasticity, an inexhaustible source of ideas." These are the characteristics that the environment for a creative person should have. In the "Infinity" project, the courtyard of the Central House of Artists is designed as a functional and at the same time mobile space - visitors will be able to transform the environment in accordance with their needs. Another challenge posed by the authors is the combination of environmentally friendly, "green" solutions and modern multimedia capabilities.
7. Architectural fields
Author: Karina Bronnikova
The concept of information fields is based on the assertion that each active zone in a public space is an information field of activity and knowledge. It performs polar functions: on the one hand, it protects a creative person from annoying information noise, and on the other hand, it creates its own information flows and helps to coordinate thoughts and actions.
Based on the above principles, the concepts of two spaces are proposed. The first of them is the courtyard of the CDA. There is a lecture space, seating areas, workplaces, a brainstorming space, 3D galleries, a small library, landscaping. In winter, the system can be transformed into a closed one.
On the basis of the concept of the game space, an art object is proposed for consideration. This is a versatile platform measuring 12x12 meters, consisting of separate blocks. They are made of wood or environmentally friendly plastic and are filled with light construction waste or industrial waste (shavings, etc.) to make the entire structure heavier and stronger. In winter, you can create a heated space covered with a canopy.
