In the picturesque Stockholm district of Sundbyberg, on the shore of the bay, a wooden multi-storey residential building was erected at the request of the company Folkhem, who decided to explore the potential for environmental friendliness and profitability of such a construction. The supplier and contractor was Martinsons, a timber structure manufacturer. This is the first building of four planned.

The house has 9 floors (the last one is attic), on which there are 31 apartments, from 2-room (55 m2) to 4-room (130 m2). Balconies along the 26-meter facade add 13 m2 to the area of each apartment. The staircase and elevator unit leading from the underground garage leads to each residential floor.

The supporting frame is erected from pre-fabricated modules - CLT-panels, which are anchored to the foundation by 23 mm metal rods that rise to the level of the attic. The mass of such a supporting structure is three times less than that of a similar one made of steel or reinforced concrete.

The gable roof resembles a typical low-rise building in Sweden, but the facade is not clad with the usual wooden slats, but with untreated cedar shingles. Cedar wood was selected for its natural resistance to decay and insect attack. Under the influence of atmospheric precipitation and the sun, cedar plates will change their color to silver-gray over time: this way, without additional processing, after 10 or 20 years, the building will look good and will not cause inconvenience to residents, requiring constant painting renewal.

Each apartment is a separate acoustic box: for optimal sound insulation, the ceiling is suspended from the walls rather than from the overlying ceiling, and the interroom walls are made of double wooden panels with a 20 mm air gap.

In the interior, wood is used to the maximum: from ceilings and floors to the interior of the elevator car. Window slopes and floors are made of ash, balcony parapets are made of cedar, window frames are painted pine.

The construction of the building cost 15% more than it would have been with a standard structure, but the cost of each subsequent reproduction of such a "wooden" technology will be 5% less, respectively, already on the fourth building of the complex, the costs will be equal to "normal".

Now almost all apartments are sold out, and the owners invite not only to see the house, but also to feel how delicious it smells of sawn wood.
