The Dior boutique is located in the prestigious Gangnam district, among other shops of major fashion houses. The rectangular blocks of these buildings most often echo the regular layout of the streets, but Christian de Portzamparc came up with a more complex solution for his construction. The bulk of the store received a facade of 11 white fiberglass panels measuring 6 m by 20 m each. Their complex, fluid outlines, according to the author, are designed to resemble the panels of white cotton fabric used by Christian Dior.
The two panels part, leaving space for the main entrance: here, complemented by perforated metal surfaces, they form a “modern pointed arch”.
The streamlined volume is connected to the rear, cubic, covered with anodized aluminum panels. There is a cafe with a terrace on the roof of the store.
The interiors of the 6-storey building, where, in addition to retail space, there is a VIP salon and a gallery, were designed by the American architect Peter Marino.
