The award was established for students of architecture universities who, within the framework of the competition, will be able to demonstrate their vision of working with natural light in modern architecture. More than 2,780 teams and 5,000 people will have to submit creative works that may become future construction projects. This year, the winners of the Prize will be announced at the World Architecture Festival in Berlin in November, and their work will be published in the November issue of Architectural Review.

Regional and worldwide prizes
The VELUX International Prize is an open, worldwide competition organized in close collaboration with the International Union of Architects and Architectural Review magazine. It is held in two stages: the first is regional, the second is international. During the first phase, awards will be presented to winners in the following regions: Western Europe, Eastern Europe and the Middle East, North and South America, Asia and Oceania, Africa. Thereafter, during the grand final, two winners will be selected to receive the grand prizes at the Berlin Festival on November 18, 2016.
The jury of the Prize included recognized world experts in the field of architecture and leading architectural media. All of them see it as their task to competently evaluate the work of students with natural light in order to present the award to the most worthy.
This year, 48 teams from Russia will take part in the competition. Students from all over the country will present their work to the world's leading architects. Moscow, Vladivostok, Samara, Kazan, Voronezh, Nizhny Novgorod, Ulyanovsk, St. Petersburg and Krasnoyarsk will root for their participants.
Light of tomorrow
The single theme of the VELUX 2016 International Prize is "The Light of Tomorrow". The award aims to inspire future architects to rethink the use of sunlight and natural light as the primary sources of energy and light in all types of buildings to ensure the health and well-being of the people who live and work in them.
