Rusty Castle (Rustenborg) - this is how students at the University of Southern Denmark call their alma mater: the large surfaces of raw concrete and Corten steel in the main building - an example of Danish functionalism of the 1960s - created the identity of the institution, and even the student newspaper is called simply and clearly - Rust. Perhaps the task of the CF Møller architectural bureau, which is actively involved in the development of the campus, is to somewhat blur this "rusty" halo, albeit without rejecting continuity through citation: in 2015, the construction of the building of the Faculty of Engineering was completed, by 2020 it is planned to complete an extensive complex project park, and recently erected a high-rise dominant - a 15-storey student residence Campus Hall.

The new residential complex marks the area from the northern corner, together with the park, forest, lake and falling relief, creating a transition zone between the city and the university. The building consists of three buildings rotated relative to each other, each of which consists of sunken and protruding blocks that form light consoles, a stepped roof and facade plastic. Thus, the tower turns out to be deployed 360 degrees - outward and inward: the conceived integral image is read from any point outside, and from the inner core, a view opens up to this any point - the city, nature, university.

On 13,700 m2 of total area, there are 250 living rooms and many common spaces. The basement of the building is reserved for a bicycle parking (a bicycle is provided to each tenant), on the ground floor there are cafes and administration rooms, on the upper floor there are large spaces for classes and celebrations, opening onto roof terraces, also equipped for relaxation and study. Smaller, more local public areas are located on each floor: around such a glazed core with a kitchen and a living room, three residential blocks of 7 cells each are grouped.

These cells are presented in three types: rectangular 20-meter single rooms form the façade line, and interlocked single-bed, barrier-free and 35-meter double cells create protruding corners of the building. The monthly rental rates for these rooms range from DKK 3,000 to 5,000 (about RUB 29,600 - RUB 49,400).

According to the authors, the new building complies with the strict Danish standard for low energy consumption - class 2020: the project implements the principles of "passive" design - the optimal shape and orientation are selected taking into account local climatic conditions, daylight, recovered heat, rain and "gray" water are used to the maximum., the natural ventilation system is in operation.

The facades of the building are faced with gray bricks of a warm shade with light seams: the plane of the wall is broken by patterned masonry. Balconies cladding made of golden hardwood and brown tombak panels captures the flavor of the surrounding landscape and cites the "rust" of the main building, while maintaining continuity and semantic connection.
