Tower 685 First Avenue will appear in Manhattan, next to the UN headquarters; it is separated from the coast of the East River only by the future park, so its facade of black glass with a horizontal "cut" at the level of the 28th floor will be clearly visible from afar. Also, metal was used in the project - for balconies, awnings, etc. With a height of 42 floors (140 m), the total area of the tower will be 71 thousand m2.
Bureau Mayer is known almost exclusively for its snow-white buildings, and the new home in Manhattan is their first experience in the opposite color. The black facades are from the developer at 685 First Avenue, Sheldon Solow.
The building has 408 apartments for rent and 148 for sale. Richard Meier & Partners are also responsible for their interiors, and they will be sustained in a more familiar light palette for the bureau's work.
The first floor, in addition to the glazed lobby, will be occupied by shops, the second will house a variety of common areas: a swimming pool, a fitness center, a children's playroom, a salon, a dining room for private receptions, etc. The underground levels are reserved for the garage.
