Two 250-meter towers with a stylobate base (total area 392.5 thousand m2) are located in the business center of Hangzhou. According to the concept of the Raffles City complexes, which the Singaporean developer Raffles City is building in various Asian cities, this is a “city within a city” where you can live, work, do any shopping, have fun and even officially get married. It would be natural to assume that a self-contained structure would be suitable for such self-sufficiency, but the architects of UNStudio paid special attention to the connection of the complex with the environment.
The towers differing from each other "enter into dialogue" with each other, while outward they face "city facades". The base of the complex with shops, restaurants, entertainment facilities and parking (all this occupies 106,000 m2, divided into six levels) with its landscaped terraces and courtyards serves as a "landscape facade". A complex atrium plays a key role in its interior. In addition, the main southern entrance to the complex also acts as a gateway to the adjacent park and community center.
At the bottom of the towers are Class A offices, above are serviced apartments and a Conrad hotel, at the very top are apartments, and on the roof is a helipad.
The east-west orientation provides interiors with sunlight and minimizes shading. At the same time, the facades of the towers protect the lamellae from overheating. Natural ventilation is widely used in the base. All this allowed the complex to apply for the "gold" LEED certificate.
