Paneum (from the Latin panis, bread) is positioned as a "cabinet of rarities" as part of the Backaldrin industrial campus in the Austrian city of Asten. It is both a space for events - they were given a concrete "box" of the base - and a museum, placed in a complex volume of wood, sheathed with stainless steel. It seems that from the "base" of the building is rising a cap of dough - or fluffy bread that does not fit into a baking dish.
In the base, the lobby and other spaces can accommodate workshops or banquets for 120 people. A spiral staircase leads to the museum, above which small exhibits are suspended on cables: the spectacular presentation is designed to remind of the magnificent Baroque “rooms of wonders” (Wunderkammer), which were hosted by noble lovers of rarities.
The interior of the upper part demonstrates the wooden base of the building - cross-laminated wood rings. The complex shape of the building was realized using computer-controlled machines. Exhibits from different eras related to the theme of bread are placed on the walls, in showcases and on tables that are inscribed in architecture. The exhibition area received artificial lighting, and a window in the ceilings was arranged above the stairs.
