In 2017, the Vi Holding Development site with an area of almost 65 hectares became the subject of a competition, in the final of which, in addition to Stephen Hall, Massimiliano Fuksas, MAD, Tsimailo Lyashenko & Partners and Zaha Hadid Architects passed. The task was to create a multifunctional development complex in two stages, where housing, a variety of social infrastructure, as well as offices and sports facilities would be combined.
Stephen Hall found inspiration in the history of the place, more precisely, in the long-standing connection of the Tushino airfield with parachuting (the Higher School of this specialization appeared there back in 1933). How is he
explained to CLAD magazine, he is no stranger to this topic: Hall's father was a captain of the Airborne Forces, he jumped with a parachute many times and taught it to others.
The project is built on the idea of "parachute hybrids": residential blocks received "pommels" that should resemble "parachutes frozen in the air". The same image became the basis for the circular openings that mark public and recreational spaces (pool, cinema, etc.).
Buildings, including balconies, will be covered with a glass envelope from the outside, which each tenant can move apart in case of good weather. In winter, it will improve the insulation of buildings.
Social facilities include a kindergarten and an elementary school, which are housed in separate buildings with original architecture. A park and playgrounds are provided. The masterplan was based on taking care of maximum insolation in public spaces.
The project's eco-components include green roofs, solar-powered pergolas, natural lighting, rainwater utilization, a geothermal heating and cooling system, and eco-corridors leading across the entire section to the Moskva River.
The total area of the complex is 185,000 m2, there are planned apartments of all price categories.
