On April 19, 2018, the national final of the international competition for students "Designing a Multi-Comfort Home-2018" was held in Moscow. The organizer of the competition in Russia is ISOVER (Saint-Gobain company). This year, 10 teams from nine Russian cities took part in the final: Volgograd, Voronezh, Tomsk, Samara, Penza, Rostov-on-Don, Yekaterinburg, Moscow, Kazan. An authoritative jury evaluated the submitted projects for the creation of a multifunctional residential complex on the territory of the cultural village of Dubai and determined the winners. A team from Voronezh consisting of Logunova Alina and Zavyalov Arkady, as well as Pavel Borodin and Maria Borodina from Penza will represent our country at the international final in the United Arab Emirates.

Interesting architecture, detailed study of engineering units, an energy efficient approach and the use of innovative materials left a vivid impression on the project of students from the Voronezh State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering and allowed the Sputnik team to take the first place. “We have been participating in the Designing of a Multi-Comfort Home competition for the second year already. For us, this is a kind of communication platform where we can meet the guys, share our knowledge and discover something new and interesting for ourselves. Introducing the project this year, we already felt much more confident, this directly speaks of our growth. However, I want to note that our rivals are developing no less rapidly,”the winners shared their impressions.

The PGUAS ARCH team led by the teacher Valery Gennadievich Kutyrev, who took second place, also took part in the competition not for the first time, but noted that this year students had the right to focus on the cultural characteristics or natural identity of the country, consider many images and transform them into architecture, which they tried to do in their project. “I cannot but note that all the works of the participants were a real discovery for us and, in a sense, a surprise. The competition this time is really at the highest level,”commented Maria Borodina.

The BASA team from the Tomsk State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, consisting of Anna Shutina, Anastasia Berezovskaya and Denis Skripchenko, under the guidance of the teacher Sergei Mikhailovich Remarchuk, are also experienced competitors. “Last year, my team took second place, and we went to Madrid with ISOVER,” comments Denis Skripchenko. - This is a wonderful and incomparable experience that motivates to move and develop further professionally. If last year the emphasis was on the reconstruction of the building, now in our project we decided to apply a completely different approach and proposed a non-standard solution - the rotation of buildings around its axis. Despite the fact that it turned out a little futuristic, for the implementation we used exclusively constructive solutions. The whole difficulty lies precisely in this, because the university is taught to apply standard construction technologies, and what Saint-Gobain and ISOVER develops, produces and offers is a completely different approach."

The chairman of the jury, Aleksandr Nikolaevich Remizov, Chairman of the Board of NP “Council for Green Building” and Chairman of the Council for Sustainable Architecture of the Union of Architects of Russia, emphasized that this is the only competition in our country on the topic of sustainable approach to architecture.“The company Saint-Gobain ISOVER has been conducting“Designing a Multi-Comfort Home”for more than one year, and I think this is important. In Russia, so far not enough attention is paid to sustainable architecture, but the student-participants, having not started their professional activities, are already faced with issues that concern most of the countries of the world,”added Alexander Nikolaevich Remizov.

The jury members noted their particular interest in the task of the competition this year. For the first time, the task was to design a multi-comfortable house for such a climate and to use building materials, for example, ISOVER insulation, not for heating the premises, but for creating comfortable coolness.

Nikita Vladimirovich Tokarev, Director of the MARCH Architectural School, teacher of the Professional Practice module, Member of the Board of the Union of Moscow Architects, who took part in the competition for the first time as a member of the jury, shared his vision: “The idea of this competition is to combine architectural solutions with environmental objectives, and students tried to figure out how to create a thoughtful, interesting, human architecture, while responding to the demand for energy efficiency and resource conservation. Today, such a request is relevant at the international level, and I am convinced that it should appear in Russia in a few years. And our today's students, participants of the competition will be able to give a worthy answer to it”. According to this jury member, the main task is to understand the influence of climate on architecture and create a comfortable, dignified life for a person.

The teams that took part in the national final noted that the competition helped to gain information on current trends in the world of architecture and energy-efficient construction, on the most modern products and solutions in this area. During the competition, students learned about the practical application of energy-saving solutions, which many do not face in the course of their studies. Without a doubt, the experience gained will play an important role in their professional growth and will allow them to design houses with care for human comfort and the safety of the environment.

“This year some of the best students of our country took part in the competition, who worked on the assignment under the strict guidance of experienced teachers. Despite the lack of practical experience of some of the participants, the projects presented really deserve the closest attention. In turn, we share information and our foreign and Russian experience in the field of energy efficient and multi-comfortable construction. This helps the contestants in the project creation process. I would like to believe that in the future all the participants in the Design of a Multi-Comfort House contest will actively develop and apply the knowledge gained in practice,”said Natalia Chupyra, Head of Energy Efficiency and Green Building at Saint-Gobain ISOVER.

In 2018, the Green Building Council, GRAPHISOFT, representing the ARCHICAD brand, and Bosch Thermotekhnika, represented by the BOSCH brand, became the official partners of the Russian stage of the competition. The jury consisted of leading experts in the field of architecture and construction:
