The 2019 Golden Section Laureate, predicted not long ago, takes us back to the period of beautiful villas against the backdrop of unobtrusive apartment buildings. Totan Kuzembaev, who has perfected the genre, including on the buildings of the Pirogovo resort, is definitely worthy of the award - few people work so subtly and boldly with individual residential buildings. “Klaugis Manor is located near the town of Madona (Latvia) in a picturesque place on the shore of forest lakes and consists of several buildings. The estate complex consists of distinctly different buildings: the Family House, the Guest House, the Children's House, the Exhibition Hall, the Bath Complex, pedestrian bridges connecting the buildings, as well as a guard house. All buildings are organically integrated into the landscape. The terrain and the existing vegetation are preserved as much as possible. One of the main objectives of the project was not to harm nature, but to enhance the impression of landscape panoramas, so the buildings are located on the sites of buildings of a similar purpose that previously stood here.
The family house is located in the central part of the plot on the southern shore of Lake Maly Klaugis. The guest house and the children's home are located in the southern part of the site between the shoreline of Lake Bolshoi Klaugis and the outskirts of the forest.
The volume of the building is divided into three parts: a guest house, a children's house and a room for an exhibition of porcelain and paintings. All volumes are connected by passages and are located under a single roof. The main facades of the houses and open terraces are oriented towards the lake. The facades of the buildings have a large glazing area to visually reduce the barrier between the interior and nature. Each room offers a view of the lakes that have survived from the last ice age. The premises have exits to the terraces. All architectural elements of the estate are interconnected: landscape, facades, original interiors - become a continuation of natural motives. The involvement of local experienced craftsmen, carpenters, joiners allowed us to achieve high quality workmanship."
