David Chipperfield will be the third guest editor of the most famous architecture and design magazine in the world: Domus will celebrate its centenary in 2028, and has spent ten years before that under the direction of ten major figures. This scheme is called "10x10x10", where the third ten means that the guest editor makes 10 issues per year.

In 2018, the magazine was headed by the Italian architect and designer Michele de Lucchi, in 2019 - the founder of MVRDV Vinny Mas (we wrote about it here), and now it's David Chipperfield's turn. The buildings, as well as the Venice Biennale curated by this architect, testify to him as an ambitious and solid person. In his approach to Domus, he did not betray himself. Chipperfield plans to take over from the very founder of the magazine, the great Joe Ponti: its January issue will be a sequel to the last one issued by Ponti in 1979. It turns out that the British architect is "stepping over" a series of editors-in-chief of the 1980s - 2010s, including Alessandro Mendini, Mario Bellini, Dejan Sudzic.

Chipperfield proposed a four-part structure for the magazine: agenda, architecture (with photographer Ivan Baan), design and art (each issue will contain an essay by designer Jasper Morrison), and at the end - reflections. The themes for the year are planning, social housing, protection / identity, design, refuge, the Olympics, commons, nature, urban environment, technology.

The first issue under his leadership, # 1042, will be released in January, while David Chipperfield began by issuing a manifesto "What is our role?", Where he named the problems that architects, designers, planners must respond to: the climate crisis and the growing economic and social inequality. In his opinion, at the same time, they will not go beyond the professional sphere, but, on the contrary, will recapture the territory that was previously lost.

Also on the Domus website is Chipperfield's interview conducted by Walter Mariotti, editorial director of the magazine. The architect spoke about his long-standing relationship with Domus, the changes in his profession and in the world that have taken place over the years of his architectural career, and the main problems of our time.
