The location for the library was the coast of Haikou Bay in the city of the same name: now the coastal strip has become an object of reconstruction and creation of public spaces. Pavilions for various purposes have also been conceived to be designed by Chinese and foreign architects, and MAD's Wormhole Library will be the first of them: the opening is scheduled for 2021.
The library is already being built where the Centenary Park overlooks the water. Its design is inspired by the fantastic idea of a "wormhole" or "wormhole" connecting different temporal and spatial layers. The building will be erected from monolithic white concrete as a single shell. To give it real integrity, the formwork was made using CNC machines and 3D printers, a mockup was previously cast (model in a scale of 1: 1). All networks are hidden inside the walls and ceilings, so as not to violate the "seamless" image conceived by the architects.
Openings of different sizes provide the interior with natural ventilation and lighting, and on the south side, the roof extension protects the pavilion from overheating. In the always shaded corridors, both visitors and passers-by can hide from the sun. Sliding doors and glass curtain walls allow you to regulate the temperature inside the building.
Most of the pavilion is occupied by a reading room with 10,000 books, a cafe and a terrace. The smaller one is for public infrastructure: bicycle parking, toilets and showers.
