According to the idea of the customers, the management of the institute, they should prepare students not only for professional activities, but also for “life outside of work,” therefore the field of arts in their education must be covered.
The center will include both new and refurbished spaces. The general appearance of the building resembles projects in line with the late modernism of the 1960s and 70s, with a variety of materials and decorative elements in the solution of the facades. But, overall, this building will be very traditional by the standards of "Snohetta": clearly the desire to adapt the new building to the scale of the provincial town of Blacksburg, where the institute is located.
The complex will include a multifunctional hall for 1,300 seats, exhibition galleries suitable for multimedia expositions, and laboratories of the Center for Creative Technologies in Art.
The building with a total area of 12 thousand m2 and a budget of 89 million dollars is planned to open in 2013.
