The Söndergård Hospice is located in Moleu in Ballerup. The stone and wood building has a curved figure eight plan; one of its long sides faces a small lake, where all 14 patient rooms open out. Each of them is allocated 36 m2, where maximum privacy is ensured - even the landscape can be admired from the terrace placed in a deep niche. Patients' rooms can be easily accessed by their relatives and friends; they are also given the opportunity to "personalize" the space where they will spend the rest of their lives as much as possible.
The other, public half of the building is separated from the “private” one by two small courtyards. It is adjacent to the entrance to the hospice: there are common areas, staff quarters, utility rooms, etc.
Søndergård Hospice is the third such facility to be built by Realdania under its Good Hospice in Denmark program.
