The famous French architect decided to use new ultra-strong fiber-reinforced concrete for his project. This building material appeared only 6 years ago: in 2005, Romain Ricciotti, son of Rudy, and his colleague Guillaume Lamouret invented fiber-reinforced concrete with a very dense structure. The distance between the particles is very small, down to a nanometer, so this material is 3-8 times stronger than ordinary concrete in strength. Due to this, much less of it is needed for any structure.
The new bridge of the Republic will be super thin: the thickness of its canvas is only 80 cm; he also won the sympathy of the jury thanks to his grace and original approach of the architects. Technical studies will be carried out during this year, and if the material really pays off, construction will begin in 2012, which should last 14 months.
The length of the bridge that will connect the banks of the Les at the new building of the City Hall of Montpellier is 74 m, width - 17 m. The canvas will be supported by two rows of supports; on the bridge itself, space is provided for all normal European modes of movement: two car lanes of 3.3 m each, cycle paths 2 m wide, and two sidewalks 2.65 m wide.
