The author's developments of this project are a continuation of the architectural and artistic solutions of the portals, laid down in the “Unified Concept for the Architectural Development of the Territory for the XXII Olympic Winter and XI Paralympic Games 2014. in Sochi . The task is to create a bright, unique, memorable image of the entire complex of the combined road Adler-Alpika Service, for residents and guests of the city for many years. Portals should impress day and night, winter and summer. Therefore, the authors covered the reinforced concrete portals of the tunnels with a modern slotted shell with a free plastic technique, which, depending on the time of day and year, is perceived both as fresh frost and as a floral, decorative ornament. On each portal, the shell pattern is individual.

The decorative shell is made of aluminum alloy according to the AluWALL System (RAL 9003 metallic) with separate elements and, with a larger area and length, is assembled from separate fragments. Fragments and elements are 80 mm thick along the contour, and the slots are bordered along the perimeter - 80 mm high, which gives the elements the possibility of an additional play of light and shadow. At the same time, against the background of a simple, monochromatic facade made of replaceable panels (RAL 7037 metallic), the openwork shell looks more impressive, the materials of the wall and shell do not argue with each other. The materials of the shell and the portal are designed for many years of operation, the illumination is available for maintenance, the structures of the shell and walls are not flammable and do not come into contact with the tunnels.

The dynamic lighting uses 79 Anolis ArcPad controlled LED floodlights. This system has the ability to illuminate in any color, modes with a smooth change in the color shade of the entire structure or its individual elements are possible. The luminaires are mounted on outboard brackets 200 mm high outside the cladding. An anti-icing system (heating system) is provided, which prevents the formation of icicles on the edge of the shell encircling the entrance to the tunnel.

The main task of the project is to create a spectacular but delicate lighting that will not argue with the level of illumination in the tunnel. All lighting fixtures are installed and adjusted so that there is no glare on the drivers, only light reflected light.

To date, on the combined road and railroad Adler-Alpika-Service, work has been completed on the construction and construction of all transport tunnels and main technological adits. A total of 12 tunnels have been completed (6 railway tunnels, 3 road tunnels and 3 technological tunnels). In total, more than 30 kilometers of new underground sections have been built. This work was completed in less than 3 years using 6 tunnel boring systems. Currently, there are no similar objects in the world. Unstable soils and fractures in the soil, which significantly slowed down the rate of penetration, were of particular difficulty for the specialists. The technical innovations used in the construction of the Sochi tunnels have caused a wide resonance and interest all over the world. In December 2011, the project of the combined road Adler-Alpika-Service became the winner of the International Tunnelling Awards-2011 in Hong Kong in the nomination “Main Tunnel Project of the Year”.
