The wall of a house in the student district of Dresden Neustadt Kunsthofpassage is a unique musical instrument - many different funnels and drainpipes collect rainwater and make it sound in different voices - it is raining and the house is singing and ringing.

The building is part of an art complex designed by architect Heike Böttcher, which was completed in 1999. The complex includes several associations of buildings connected by philosophical images: "Yard of the Elements", "Yard of Mythical Creatures", "Yard of Metamorphoses" …

The Yard of Water, playing with the rain (with drainpipes on a turquoise facade), is a member of the Yard of Elements association. In addition to it, there is also the "Courtyard of Light" (with sparkling golden curls of aluminum on the yellow wall) and the "Courtyard of Animals" (with a facade painted with giraffes and monkeys).

The Singing Wall was designed by sculptor Annette Paul and designers André Tempel, Christoph Roßner.
