The University of Navarra, one of the best universities in Spain (it even ranks in the top 50 in the world), recently received a new building, which houses its Faculty of Economics and Master's degree. Together with the existing building of the Faculty of Law, it formed a convenient educational complex.
The Otxoterena Arquitectos project successfully follows the principles of the Bologna Convention: the building meets the modern requirements of the educational process. In addition, the building actually improved the building of the Faculty of Law, supplementing it with the necessary premises: after all, both buildings are connected to each other on each floor.
Students of both faculties received new auditoriums and public spaces of different sizes, and teachers - premises for research and their own classrooms. Spanish architects have created a simple and understandable layout, equipped with many public areas designed for informal classes and student communication.
The buildings received a common front entrance: this is an open concrete gallery, which is attached to the main volume of the new building. The university ensemble also acquired a new open public area overlooking the surrounding landscape, as the buildings are located on the hillside. The same principle of open interaction with the environment is served by the low number of storeys of the building and large glazing areas.
The rhythmic organization of facades made of concrete and glass is the main technique of architects. Individual sections of the facades are "wrapped" with metal plates, and the density of this cladding varies.
