We are talking about the development of the new Feldbraite district in the city of Emmen, which is part of the Lucerne metropolitan area. The task of the competition was a traditional residential area with perimeter buildings. Instead, the Dutch architects proposed the Urban Hybrid, a complex that combines the best features of rural (greenery and multi-storey private houses) and urban dwellings (central location, infrastructure).
In the corners of the block there will be low apartment buildings, along the perimeter - townhouses, and in the center - single-family houses with a height of 2 to 4 floors with courtyards and gardens. In total, there are 16 types of housing with an area from 30 to 130 m2: as a result, 95 houses and apartments will amount to 9000 m2 of area, underground parking (2925 m2) and infrastructure facilities (2034 m2) are also provided.
The facade of each house and apartment will be painted in its own color, but they will all be kept in pastel colors, which is typical for the cities of the canton of Lucerne. With high quality construction, the houses will not be too expensive: the buyer can purchase a house with an unfinished finish, postponing expenses for repairs until a later date, or he can save money by doing the work on his own.
In the center of the block, the walls divide the space into public and private, although it is planned to plant fruit trees both there and there. Benches and tables will be reinforced on these walls, and some of their sections can be rotated around an axis, turning into ping-pong tables. Flat roofs of houses will be exploitable.
