In the middle of the last century, Vitrolle was a Provencal village with a thousand inhabitants, but the rapid urbanization of the 1960s turned it into a sleeping suburb of the agglomeration of Marseille - Aix-en-Provence, built up with typical houses. Now the Vitrol center is being reconstructed, and one of the measures to revive it was the construction of a new media library there, where, in addition to books, newspapers, archival materials, DVDs, CDs and other media are stored, there is a library of games (desktop, video and toys), Wi-Fi and other resources that make the institution attractive to citizens as a “third place” (besides home and work).
The glazed first floor allows you to see the lobby, the exhibition area, and the children's section from the street. The transparent walls are protected from the sun by a "curtain" made of light concrete - the facade of the protruding second floor.
An interior with free, flowing space can be transformed to meet the changing needs of the media library; the furniture is also designed for this. Inside, attention is immediately drawn to the egg-like volume of the children's "fairy tale room" on the mezzanine floor. Open access racks are located on the second floor.
