Students of Russian universities can turn an industrial suburb of Paris into a comfortable space with environmentally friendly technologies.
The Saint-Gobain company announces the start of the national stage of the international competition for the creation of a multi-comfortable living environment. The event is being held for the sixteenth year in a row. Its main goal is to follow the concept of sustainable development and transform various urban areas into aesthetic and sustainable spaces. This time, the participants will develop a project for the Parisian suburb of Saint-Denis.
Contestants can be 1–6 year students of construction, design and architecture faculties. The winners of the national stage receive cash prizes and can present their projects at an international competition in Paris.
The essence of the competition
The Test Project will transform the Coignet Enterprise Saint-Denis into a 3-hectare park. It is also planned to build a modern complex for 250-300 apartments and 18 classes of an elementary school (with a kindergarten) on the territory. It is necessary to create comfortable conditions for residents: an optimal temperature regime, a high level of noise insulation, natural lighting in rooms, etc.
The renovation site is located 9 km north of the center of Paris and is separated from it by the Seine and the railway. It is expected that the reconstruction plan will include additional transport routes.
The project is evaluated not only in terms of design and functional solutions. Contestants must take into account the historical heritage of the buildings located on the territory (the Maison Coignet reinforced concrete plant with warehouses built in the 19th century) and provide everything necessary for the sustainable development of the area. For example, it is important to suggest ways to reduce energy consumption and carbon dioxide concentration.

Stages and timing
The event includes two stages - national and international. Registration for the Russian tour will take place from November 18, 2019 to February 1, 2020. Entries will be accepted until February 20, 2020. The national final will take place on April 10, then it will be known which of the participants will go to Paris to defend their projects at the international level.
Cash prizes are provided for the first three places at all stages of the competition. Additional awards may also be awarded. The jury includes representatives of the Saint-Gobain company, the French authorities, independent architects and renowned experts.
For Russian students, the Saint-Gobain Multicomfort competition is an excellent opportunity to declare themselves in the global architectural community, establish new professional contacts and gain unique experience in a large-scale project.
In 2019, over 2,200 students from 35 countries took part in the competition. 350 of them are participants from Russia. 60 teams competed in the national round. Two of them defended their projects before an international jury, and one received a special prize.
