The campus is located in the Juanhu Lake International Science Park. The lake itself adjoins it from the south, and the university campus itself is organized around a vast pond. From the north it is bounded by a "swampy" park, from the east and west - by river channels. This is how natural boundaries emerge, emphasized by a symmetrical "classical" layout: the campus is equally different from the natural environment and from the conventionally modern science park and the city of Haining, where it is located.
The authors of the complex are specialists from a design institute at the same Zhejiang University, one of the largest in the PRC. The reference point for their project is a British-style boarding college, where students live in the same place where they study. Only in the Chinese version there are more functions - there is both a service infrastructure and a research "platform".
Red brick was widely used, which was chosen for its spectacular appearance both in the sun and in the rain, as well as light sandstone.
