The establishment is located in one of the sections of the High Line overpass. The dark galvanized steel façade reveals a low arch drawn by an orange curtain - this is the entrance to the restaurant. The interior is dominated by the raw concrete typical of Ando projects, but in this case it is softened by draperies of white fiberglass that cover the ceiling.
The sushi bar and the main restaurant are grouped around the stairs leading to the bar on the lower floor. In the center of the staircase, there is an installation of 17,400 bottles filled with water, each with an LED.
Since the original space in which the restaurant is located was used as a loading and unloading platform, it took a lot of time and effort to rebuild, which eventually cost $ 12 million. Morimoto is owned by renowned restaurateur Stephen Starr, whose other establishments have been designed by designers such as Karim Rashid and David Rockwell.
The restaurant is named after its chef, Masaharu Morimoto, who is extremely popular in the United States.
