The "Campus of Culture" will appear in the city center and will unite the laboratory of modern theater, music and dance Frankfurt LAB, the Higher School of Music and Visual Arts, the troupe of choreographer William Forsyth, the Senckenberg Scientific Society for the Study of Nature, the Goethe University Institute for Social Research and other institutions. There are also planned 1,500 apartments, offices and shops, but they will occupy no more than half of the total area.
The complex will be located on 16.5 hectares, currently occupied by the University of Frankfurt, but by 2014 the university should make room for new construction. Ajaye envisions the campus as an “extract of the city's components,” which in concentrated form will create a “microcosm of the city” or “micro-city”.
The meeting of researchers, representatives of the creative professions, office workers, residents of the apartments located right there should create a lively and "fertile" environment. In the center of the complex there will be a lobby uniting all buildings and institutions, which also includes cafes, shops and an indoor market. Courtyards are located along the perimeter, ensuring the permeability of the campus border with the city. The combination and mixing of functions is planned to be obtained due to the location of different objects not only next to each other, but also above each other.
