UPD 2014-17-10: OLIN and OMA tandem became the winner of the competition.
The four teams that submitted their work to the jury were selected from among 40 who had originally submitted their portfolios. The challenge for the participants was not only to “invent” a recreational area on stilts, but to transform the future “Park Bridge on 11th Street” into an attractive and convenient link between the banks of the Anacostia River and between much of Washington and its poorest outlying districts.
The participants provided their "bridges-parks" with a variety of infrastructure - educational centers, amphitheaters, piers, city farms and waterfalls, but even the best offer will not necessarily be implemented: so far, of the $ 40 million needed to create and operate the park (one construction will cost 25 million) there are only 14.5 million, which is allocated by the government of the District of Columbia. Recall that
a similar proposal was developed by Thomas Heatherwick for London: there is a debate about its implementation.
