The winners of Arch of Moscow-22 were awarded last Saturday, May 27. The ceremony took place on the third floor of the Central House of Artists, where installations by the nominees for the main awards of the festival became the stage decorations. The official part began with the words of Vasily Bychkov, who shared the statistics: the exhibition was housed in 27 halls of the Central House of Artists at 10,000 m2, presented about 1000 projects from 250 participants from 13 countries.
The Arch of Moscow theme this year is NEXT !, so the main event of the evening was the awarding ceremony for the best young bureau. The winner was selected by the curators of the project Elena Gonzalez and Ruben Arakelyan out of eleven applicants who showed their expositions within the framework of the New Voices project, and the winner was determined by the jury, which, in addition to the curators, included Yuliy Borisov, Vera Butko, Vasily Bychkov, Sergey Kuznetsov, Vladimir Kuzmin, Anton Nadtochiy, Vladimir Plotkin, Sergey Skuratov, Sergey Tchoban and Nikita Yavein.
As Elena Gonzalez said, two bureaus remained the main contenders for victory until the last - GAFA architects and FAS (t). But in the end, the group of architects FAS (t) won by one vote. Ruben Arakelyan, one of the leaders of the WALL bureau, which was recognized as the best at Arch Moscow 2015, explained that the decisive factor in choosing the winner was “aesthetics and conceptual message”. According to him, “the jury highly appreciated the exposition of the FAS (t) bureau, referring to the origins of academic architecture, when the architect was thinking about proportions, tectonics, and mass. In the era of the temporary and one-off, the subtle and philosophical reflections of the FAS (t) group seemed to the jury extremely important. In addition to the diploma, the FAS (t) bureau has traditionally received the right to present its personal exposition at the festival next year.
As for the project itself “Architecture Next! New Voices”, then, by the decision of the festival jury, he became the best among curatorial projects. Elena Gonzalez and Ruben Arakelyan presented to the visitors of the exhibition a whole hall with projects, or rather installations of young architectural teams. This exhibition turned out to be one of the most spectacular, varied and fulfilling.
