In 2020, the Department found itself in an unusual format for the implementation and defense of thesis in the context of distance learning. This format gave both students and teachers a new experience. Of the advantages - flexibility of the educational process, more individual contact between students and teachers, accessibility from anywhere in the country. Cons - lack of live communication and collective energy. Much also depended on self-discipline. The university provided several platforms for communication: Teams, Moodle gasu, and we also used social networks. Even in such conditions, the bachelor's theses turned out to be convincing and thoughtful.

This is the second graduation of bachelors at the Department of DAS together with Irina Grigorievna Shkolnikova. The works of this year are distinguished by the author's approach to the choice of the subject of the work, filling with script components and graphic design. The complexities of spring online learning mobilized students to show the maturity and personality of design concepts in their work

GO GREEN / Zelimger Maryam

The Tuchkov Buyan Park is located on the Malaya Neva River in the historic center of St. Petersburg. The future park with direct access to water will become a key node of the city's green frame, an iconic place for citizens and visitors to the city. The park development concept includes three main ideas:

  1. Creation of a new urban ecosystem under the slogan "GO GREEN". There are zones with various landscape techniques: tree alleys, open and closed spaces, an orchard, a green labyrinth, a meadow, a forest, a lake; A rain garden with innovative "rain trees" circulates and purifies water throughout the park.
  2. Sustainable design: Create a safe and all-season park for all user groups.
  3. "Underground" - the development of underground space on the foundation preserved from the previous construction. Here, a greenhouse and public spaces will be located under the bionic translucent cover. The concept of organizing underground spaces was based on the images of courtyards-wells and walkways.

In the branding of the park, Maryam used associations with rainy Petersburg. The zones of the projected park are named by analogy with the historical names of previously existing sites on this territory: "Vatny Island", "Mokrushi" and others.

The work was carried out according to the Terms of Reference of the international competition for the project of the Tuchkov Buyan parkThe subject of the study was the functional planning, volumetric-spatial and environmental organization of the territory, taking into account the history of the place and the characteristics of the design area. In his graduation project, the author managed to combine historical and modern techniques of landscape design. The merit of the work is the delicate attitude to the unique panoramas of St. Petersburg. Maryam has numerous certificates and diplomas for prizes in All-Russian and international competitions. Including the first place in the international competition "Triumph Pavilion 2020" (Great Britain, London) with the right to implement the project.

Game-dave studio "PLANT" / Grigorieva Daria

The industrial past of the territory of the Krasnoye Znamya factory is filled with scientific and technical innovations and advanced technologies of its time, which became the starting point in choosing a concept for further development. The gamedev industry, which develops video games on various platforms, is actively developing all over the world and is the best fit for the field of innovation, therefore it is perfect for the next stage in the life of the territory - game development studio PLANT.

The priority was to create a space that is close in spirit to the end user - developers and gamers. One of the main ones was the idea of changing the space to suit the needs of users: this is how mobile modules appeared that can transform a mix zone into a work or exhibition space. The whole complex is an attempt to look into the future and provide a platform for the development of new virtual worlds.

KINESTHETICS. Cluster of modern fashion industries / Efimova Anna

The Krasnoe Znamya factory was a leading manufacturer of knitwear. Today in St. Petersburg there are many local clothing brands, but there is no single platform where it would be possible to train personnel, manufacture products, exchange experience with like-minded people. The project pays tribute to the past of the factory, transforming it into a center of culture and fashion, reviving the production and sale of fashionable clothes.

Kinetic small architectural forms and interior objects make it possible to change the space, thereby providing a variety of use cases. On the territory it is possible both a working or educational process, as well as holding shows, lectures, festivals. Moving forward, kinetic energy and technology, fashion, aesthetics, variability of space - these are the foundations of the Kinesthetics cultural cluster.

GREEN PLACE / Tyunyaeva Alena

Green place is an environmentally friendly multifunctional space that grows out of the dilapidated garrison arena of the Life Guards Hussars in Pushkin. Aesthetic solutions emphasize the connection between man and nature, while engineering technologies provide a "friendship" between the building and nature. From the synthesis of a building and a public garden, an eco-space is born, which allows the local community to unite, relax and attract tourists.

The main building is divided into two functional areas: entertainment and educational and restaurant. The first includes a universal hall with an amphitheater and auditoriums, the second - a cafe-bar and a cafe-greenhouse overlooking the St. Sophia Cathedral. Both areas are united by a glass atrium with an exhibition space and access to a terrace overlooking the cathedral and the apple orchard.

Leaders comment:

Alena's project is based on respect for nature and surrounding buildings. It was necessary to preserve the existing landscape and landscaping, as well as create a multifunctional place for residents of the city and for tourists, a place that will not stand out from the cultural and historical image of the area, but, on the contrary, will emphasize its significance and heritage.

Non-volatile cluster ALUSTON / Donnik Elizaveta

ALUSTON is a non-volatile development cluster for park and coastal areas of Alushta. The concept is to create a comfortable and multifunctional environment for various social groups of the population, as well as to carefully introduce renewable energy sources into architecture and small architectural forms. The result and analysis of the aerodynamic calculation helped to find the right solutions for the zoning of the site, the formation of thematic zones: sun, water, wind. An informed decision was also made to integrate wind turbines into architecture and environment, aimed at self-sufficiency of the park and the embankment. ALUSTON will become an attractive space for exploration, walking, quiet and active recreation for residents and tourists.

Leaders comment:

The presented work examines the concept of park space on the territory of the former sanatorium "Northern Dvina" and the concept of the development of the central embankment of Alushta. ALUSTON is the Greek name of the city, which can be translated as "wind strengthening", "wind energy".

The work was carried out on the basis of the research work "Wind energy potential and aerodynamic characteristics of modern architectural objects and public spaces" (Research work performer: Elizaveta Valerievna Donnik, research director: O. Fedorov, 2019). The projected area is included in the list of public spaces submitted for rating voting for inclusion in the municipal program "Formation of a modern urban environment".

Elizaveta was one of the few who touched upon the topic of alternative energy sources and the importance of studying aerodynamic characteristics, created a digital model of the projected site and, using modern software, carried out an aerodynamic analysis of the territory.

Leaders comment:

The result of a large-scale pre-project study, which included the study of the urban planning and historical context, a sociological survey of local residents and tourists, led to the conclusion that it is necessary to create an innovative climate-resistant and environmental project. The nature of Crimea is unique and requires careful attention; it is important to preserve the biodiversity of the peninsula and the unique landscape. Analysis of global environmental problems and their impact on the design area allowed Elena to develop a concept. The work won first place in the intra-university competition of final qualifying works.
