The new building will appear on the Göteplatz square, on the corner of the Goethestraße luxury shopping street. This will be a seven-storey office building with a shopping center on the lower levels: developers believe that there is not enough space for such establishments on Goethestraße, and there is a need for new stores.
To make room for the future construction, it is planned to demolish two post-war buildings. There are three projects for the city authorities to choose from: Zaha Hadid, Christoph Mackler and the KSP Engel & Zimmermann workshop. So far, the option of the British architect has the least chance: it is already known that the officials did not like him for his courage. This is a glazed volume, where the boundaries of the floors are marked with metal plates. The height of the building rises smoothly towards the Goethestraße.
The works of Hadid's rivals, on the other hand, surprised observers with their modesty or even fadedness: they are clearly focused on the existing development of the square in the spirit of modernism of the 60s. The Christoph Mackler building is composed of five buildings of different widths, with varying facades; the corner of Goethestraße is marked by a glass "marquee".
The architects of KSP Engel and Zimmermann followed a similar path: the facade of their building is also made up of a "lattice" made of natural stone, the density of which is different in different parts of the wall. The angle between the square and the Goethestraße is highlighted by a higher rectangular volume than the rest of the building.
