Not far from Vienna, in the city of Purkersdorf, there is a three-apartment building designed by Juri Troy Architects. The first floor of the building with an area of 250 m2 is occupied by a doctor's office, the second - three apartments, and a garage is arranged on the lower, semi-underground level.
The glass perimeter of the first floor is surrounded by a "forest" of 280 birch trunks: this solution provides a small clinic with sun protection and fences it from prying eyes, creating a pleasant atmosphere for both workers and patients. The road and surrounding buildings disappear behind the curtain of the "birch grove".
The apartments on the second floor are emphasized by the deep relief of the terraces; the airy, light interiors organically continue the mood set by the birch trees.
Describing their project, the architects notice that in the same city there is also a heritage site of the Vienna Secession - a sanatorium by Joseph Hoffmann, thus, apparently, paying attention to the continuity of their architectural solutions. The minimalist interior and white modernist austere planes of the facade are balanced by the natural, “artisan” aesthetics of the perimeter of the first floor.
Go to the doctor's appointment in a birch grove. Utilitarian and expressive.
