The main prize ArchiWOOD 2018 was received by the KINO house from the LeAtelier bureau: Sergey Kolchin, Anton Arkhipov, Nadezhda Torshina. It sounded that the jury discussed its main decision for a long time and leaned towards the KINO house only after examining the axonometrics and sections - read for the complexity of the layout on the slope. In the title you can see "House of Cinema": a round window looks like the eye of a lens, the outer towers of spiral staircases look like rolled rolls of film, and the house as a whole is a paraphrase of a movie camera observing the surroundings from a height.

Announcing the "Country House" nomination, Nikolai Malinin rightly remarked: "It's certainly a misfortune, I read the list and wait for it to end," and that's right, horror, after the selection of 10 houses, before that there were a little more. There have not been so many, definitely the order of wooden residential buildings has reached a new level. So the jury had to distribute several more diplomas, in addition to the people's award, which was received by the TAF-komdominium of Alexander Ermolaev, his Moscow residence, which the TAF website directly says: the architectural appearance is a barn. The komdominium harmoniously complemented the well-known Protodesign Museum in Oshevensk.

The third, additional, was the jury's special prize "to the house of an architect" near Novosibirsk: Galina Budnikova, Grigory Kuzhelev, Alexey Morzhakov. Presenting the diploma, jury member Alexander Kudimov formulated the advantages of the house as follows: “this is what happens when an architect with a small budget, but with ingenuity, gets down to business”. The house is small and also in the "barn" style, but in its cheerful version, it rears a little over the entrance terrace.

The fourth prize, an informal one from the organizers of the award, the HONKA company, which brought the number of awardees closer to half of the short list, was received by the house from the HONKA company's own archbureau in Russia.

Before talking about other awardees, and there are many of them, we note that Nikolai Malinin's artistry in the presentation of projects and nominations not only grows from year to year, but turns into a kind of research performance, so now each nomination was accompanied by an excursion, sometimes paradoxical. For example, before "The Tree in Finish" Nikolai talked about everything that burns, from the remains of Karelian churchyards to Nikolai Polissky's "Gothic" at Maslenitsa in Nikola-Lenivets. And before the "Public Buildings" about the wooden houses of the XX century, moreover: I myself did not know and once thought that wooden houses in 1917 ended in Russia - and then workers' clubs follow, similar to churches and the churches themselves should be in the village to be replaced, before the 1980s exhibit pavilions. One of the most remarkable was the excursion dedicated to the wooden Alma-Ata, where after the earthquake of 1887, in which the wooden buildings suffered much less than the stone ones, they began to build everything from wood, including the Ascension Cathedral, in which Dombrovsky's "Keeper of Antiquities" takes place.

The jury prize for the best public building was awarded to Anton Kochurkin's farmers market, 8lines bureau, in the Tula region - 5 kilometers after the bridge over the Oka, and somewhere there. The Tula agrohub is called. The market, according to the author, is a new step after the wild markets of the 1990s and then the civilized, but impersonal malls. There are stalls here, only civilized, although the project is budgetary.

In the popular nomination of our time, "Design of the Urban Environment", the viewpoint of the ADM bureau (Architecture Design Methodology) was awarded in the Divnogorsk mountains near Krasnoyarsk, according to the authors of the project, "the fold of the amphitheater on the steps of the descent." The People's Prize went to the Krasnogvardeisky ponds of the Wowhaus bureau, and the jury's special prize was given to the Volzhsky Stork beach gazebo, somewhat similar to the Peripter, which was lost by ArchiWOOD in the colonnade of the Central House of Artists, about which Nikolai Malinin nostalgically spoke here, before the nomination was awarded.

“Wowhaus received the first ArchiWOOD with the Strelka Institute amphitheater, but then did not receive it for a long time, because they became very famous, and it was unfair, the jury is always looking for something so small and remote to support,” Nikolai Malinin commented … "And finally, they are again among the winners."

Two apartments won in the "Interior" nomination: the apartment "Four cells" of the permanent winner, and now a member of the expert council of the award, Alexei Rosenberg, and the apartment on Arbat, Alexander Kuptsov and Sergei Gikalo, the authors of the aforementioned Peripter, lost but not forgotten.

The best restoration of the three possible, and immediately according to the jury and the Internet, was the St. George chapel in the village of Syuma, Shenkursk district of the Arkhangelsk region, - a miniature structure, a non-monument, restored by volunteers without any government assistance, but carefully, with preservation of some of the logs and the study of history, elements, compositional features, are quite rare: inside the log house there is another log house, there is a chapel in it, and around it there is an L-shaped public space, as they say now, or a “refectory”.

On the other hand, among the small objects again, like last year, a toilet appeared, in this case the Hedgehog, although it was said here at the award ceremony that the object was not unique. However, ArchiWOOD does not set itself such a goal, but the object is beautiful, - said the co-founder of the award, Yulia Zinkevich, presenting her diploma. The Jury Prize was awarded to the House-Lantern from Archstoyania from the Khvoya bureau. ***

Last year, when ArchiWOOD published the catalog, it was rumored that the prize was the last one. But no. Alexey Rosenberg even said from the stage that the prize had reached a new level and the visual appearance of the objects was very convincing. In addition, there are many more applicants for the main nomination - wooden houses - more than ever. But, on the other hand, the Grand Prix was not awarded, apparently no one deserved it. And finally, there is an assumption that standards will be adjusted in the summer and, in fact, multi-storey construction made of wood will become possible. Look, next year a new nomination for wooden high-rise buildings will be introduced, and the curator will delight us with excursions into the history of wooden workers' settlements, pre-war urban high-rise buildings and construction on the Virgin Lands, especially since Astana is close to Virgin Land.

All projects of the winners, as well as short and long lists, can be seen on the website of the award.
