The pavilion, which stands directly in front of the Pinakothek of Modernity, is intended for exhibitions during the reconstruction of its building. The museum management decided to spend several months of forced downtime with the maximum benefit for the public, creating an alternative art platform for this time, allowing not only to exhibit works of art, but also to experiment with its various formats and genres. The Schaustelle pavilion became just such a platform (therefore, its name can be translated as "exhibition area").

The temporary nature of this structure is the basis for its architectural image: the building's frame is scaffolding, most of which are left open. In fact, the architects enclose only the first level of the building with enclosing structures, creating here a multifunctional exhibition space with a total area of 250 m2.

The open part of the building, the "forest" itself, serves to accommodate two public spaces - a terrace with an area of 150 m2 and an observation deck raised to a height of 17 m. The main hall can be transformed, turning, if necessary, into a series of chamber exhibition spaces, and the outer walls of the pavilion are also used as screens for video installations and light shows.

Thanks to its design solution, Schaustelle can be erected and then dismantled in a short time. It is fundamentally important for the authors of the project that it is built from materials that can be reused or recycled. As soon as the need for a temporary pavilion disappears, it will simply disappear, without affecting its surroundings in any way. However, the museum's management hopes that the creation of the pavilion will not go unnoticed - the building in the form of bare scaffolding serves not only as a temporary haven for art projects of the Pinakothek, but also as an appeal to the city authorities, which have suspended the construction of the second building of this museum for an indefinite period.
