Tables 1 = 2 at Imm Cologne were presented in a bright setting against a neon wall, which emphasized the straightforwardness of objects. According to Jean Nouvel, he always liked the ideas associated with the transformation of one thing into something else. 1 = 2 is based on a simple concept: there are two tables of different heights that can be placed one above the other or next to each other; but if you change the height of the legs of the tables so that their tabletops are on the same level, and put them one to the other, you get one large table.
In Cologne, Cassina showed 2013 collection MyWorld by Philippe Starck, which includes sofas with two and three seats, an armchair, a chaise longue and a pouf. “We live in a schizophrenic society. Let's admit it. MyWorld is a cocoon, a nest, a world where we can be self-centered and conveniently communicate with our own shadow or collect some snippets of world news that are said to be real. This is how Philippe Starck describes his creation.
Various MyWorld items can be grouped and complemented with accessories such as side tables (including the new version that has just been launched), open side tables in natural oak and rosewood, as well as painted or lacquered; screens in two heights that define the area around the sofa. Integrated armrest with electric charger, USB charging and Duracell Powermat wireless charger®… Thus, MyWorld gives a person complete freedom for both leisure and work.
Also presented a new version chair Motek from Luca Nichetto, with armrests and additional trim colors: blue and green felt, dark red and brown saddle leather. The sturdy wooden armrests of the Motek chair make it even more geometric, yet still comfortable.
The Motek chair, which was first shown at the Milan furniture show in 2013, was inspired by a sheet of paper that is flexible and light in nature. Luca Nichetto draws attention to the fact that in theory a sheet of paper cannot withstand the load, but the same sheet of paper takes on a new life thanks to the Japanese art of origami - after a series of folds, it creates forms and structures that can already withstand the load. The Motek chair's manufacturing method includes injection molding, typical of the automobile manufacturing process: a sheet of felt is bent to create the rigid body necessary for the chair to withstand the load without losing the original lightness and beauty of the material - once it is demolded, it is ready to be installed on the structure. The chair is available in two shades of gray felt, in the new blue or green felt; can be upholstered in natural saddle leather and black, crimson or brown leather for a more sophisticated look - leather stitching accentuates the curvature of the chair.
Another exhibit of the Cologne exhibition is a curtsey from Patrick Nurghe towards the traditional deep armchairs - chaise lounges P22, now with a new high back without "ears" and with a walnut or ash wood base. According to Patrick Nurguet, he wanted to create a relaxing armchair that would combine classic traditions with modern influences. The updated armchair was first shown at the Milan Furniture Show in 2013.
During the Imm Cologne exhibition, the Cassina showroom in Cologne, opened last year on Spichernstraße, hosted a show collection Cassina SimonCollezione … Simon, an Italian brand founded by Dino Gavina in the 1960s, was acquired by Cassina in June 2013. Cassina SimonCollezione, created by such famous figures as Carlo Scarpa, Marcel Breur and Kazuhide Takahama, is today part of the Cassina I Contemporanei Collection.
