The £ 1 billion Peninsula Place complex will be the centerpiece of the ongoing renovation of the Greenwich Peninsula. The first significant building of Santiago Calatrava in Great Britain is three towers with a height of 113 m (30 floors), connected to the metro station by an openwork gallery with a conservatory, cafes and shops (height 24 m, length 152 m), and with the bank of the Thames and the park planned there - overhead bridge. According to the architect, the Peninsula Place project was inspired by the work of prominent 19th century English engineers Joseph Paxton and I. K. Brunel.
The total area of the complex will be 130,000 m2. Its functional program includes a bus station and the aforementioned new metro station, theater, cinema and concert hall, bars, shops, etc. The towers will house offices, apartments and hotel rooms.
Overall, the reconstruction of the Greenwich Peninsula is the largest of its kind in the British capital. We are talking about investments in the amount of 8.4 billion pounds (of which 500 million will be spent on public spaces) and an area of 60.7 hectares. According to the general plan of Allies & Morrison, seven new districts will appear there, including the first large film studio in London, a "design district", two schools for 2,000 students, 15,720 apartments, of which 3,930 are social, and so on. It is expected that 34,000 people will settle on the peninsula, and 13,000 will work. The proximity of the river will make the new development zone especially attractive: the coastline of the peninsula is 2.6 km, along which a 5 km jogging track will be laid. The construction of three districts has begun, and people are already living there.
