The former industrial zone, where from 1962 to 1988 not only silicate bricks were produced, but the sand necessary for this was immediately mined, has now become a city park. The sand quarry has been turned into a lake, and the factory building has become a center that has united cultural institutions previously scattered throughout the city.
The “Plant of Culture on the Lake”, as the new complex is officially called, has retained its industrial character. So, as a reminder of its past, the facades were again faced with silicate bricks, and on the eastern facade, perforated blocks are designed to "populate" them in the future with creeping plants, swifts and even bats. Trolley gates have become large windows, and storage yards have been converted into parking lots.
The architects changed the interior of the industrial building to a minimum: the trolley corridor became a long foyer, the furnace shop became a dressing room, and the molding shop became the main hall for 440 spectators. A music school is located in a completely new building.
The total area of the building is 3000 m2. Heating and cooling of the premises is carried out using a geothermal system.
