The Shanghai Center Tower in Shanghai's Pudong District will reach a height of 632 meters, making it the second tallest skyscraper in the world when completed in 2014.
The Jensler architects plan to wrap their building in a glass "veil" that resembles a carelessly rolled scroll. Only eight "main" levels of the building will touch this outer envelope, each of which will be planted with flowers and trees up to 10 m high. These external "atriums" will help regulate the temperature in the building, making the Jensler project another option on the topic "Green", environmentally friendly skyscraper.
The usual floors of the tower (there are 127 of them in total) will be much smaller in area and will be equipped with their own - internal - glass shell. The concrete "core" of the building will rise to a height of 565.5 m, and above it will be continued by a steel structure, completed by an observation platform.
On a total area of 558 thousand sq. m, the skyscraper will house offices, a luxury hotel and shops.
The building, the construction of which should begin in December 2008, will be erected on a plot of only 30 thousand square meters. m; it is intended to complement such famous Shanghai skyscrapers as Jin Mao Bureau Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (421 m) and the Shanghai KPF World Financial Center (492 m).
