The curators of the Zodchestvo festival, Andrei and Nikita Asadov, proposed for 2017 the theme “Quality now. Space and Environment ". Having engaged in reflections on various nuances and aspects of the concept, which is so often used and so rarely try to define, Archi.ru makes an attempt to reveal the key and difficult to verify theme of quality in architecture in the exposition and discussion project "Standard of Quality".

“The phrase“quality architecture”is often used as the highest praise for a completed project. But what it is and what criteria the quality is measured by, few can say. Even architects find it difficult to define. And this is not surprising.
Understanding quality in architecture, the ability to evaluate modern and historical objects, others' and one's own decisions - this is a very subjective feeling based on a huge number of factors, including education, experience, communication with colleagues, seen masterpieces, coincidence or confrontation with personal preferences and beliefs. In order to formulate a quality assessment system, an architect must look deeply into himself and find those basic images and concepts that he, sometimes unconsciously, uses as standards.
The "Standard of Quality" project is an opportunity for several architects to make such a journey into their professional consciousness and to isolate from a multitude of images, associations and examples those that are the yardstick, first of all, of their own decisions and projects. Moreover, not only to identify them in the interview process, but also to find a material embodiment for them, which can be an installation, an art object, any artifact that personifies the standard of quality in architecture for the author”.
