BOOM shopping center is located on the outskirts of Athens, close to the Mediterranean coast. The structure is impressive due to its appearance and unusual striking facade, which was built on in front of the outer envelope walls of the building, which is a facade with large-scale glazing.
The structure of the false façade openings, which are bright in their design, are window openings for rooms located behind the walls of the façade and giving the interior an atmosphere of integrity. BOOM was being built directly behind the beach, on the Mediterranean coast, so materials and technologies that were resistant to moisture and protect the frame from destruction were required for its construction.
When erecting the facade, among other materials and construction methods, preference was given to the KNAUF AQUAPANEL building system® External wall from the KNAUF company. This decision was made for two reasons: KNAUF AQUAPANEL® The outer wall does not limit the design possibilities when creating monolithic seamless surfaces, thereby creating a technology for fast façade solutions. In addition, the main structural element is AQUAPANEL.® Cement slab Outside is a durable and moisture resistant material that provides reliable protection against moisture and atmospheric influences.
The designers who worked on the project developed a special metal frame that accurately imitated the shape of the facade conceived by the architects. Due to the easy installation of AQUAPANEL building systems®, the installers at the construction site only had to attach the slabs to the frame. Huge round holes on the facade were created by bending the profiles into a rounded shape and then closing them on all sides with AQUAPANEL plates®… The ability of cement slabs to bend with a radius of up to 1 meter has simplified the task of creating curvilinear shapes. The next step was the process of finishing the facade: priming the slabs and decorative painting in white.
