On November 10, a press conference was held in Irkutsk, where the results of the "Quarter of the XXI century" competition for the concept of development of the territory on the banks of the Angara River, near the lower embankment of the city were announced. The organizers of the competition are the Union of Architects of Russia and the Irkutsk Development company. The participants were required to develop projects for a modern quarter with residential and office buildings, spaces for recreation and entertainment. The cultural center of the quarter will be a symphonic music concert hall, the creation of which was the initiative of the famous pianist Denis Matsuev.
In total, 67 works from authors from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Italy were presented to the jury. The exhibition of competitive projects was attended by over 3500 people. Three winners will receive a monetary reward - 1 million rubles each, and their concepts will form the basis for a detailed study of the improvement of the site. Separate tenders are planned for the main objects to be located in the new quarter.

The minimalist project, according to the jury, fully reflects the trends in architecture of the XXI century. The quarter is successfully integrated into the surroundings and does not conflict with the historical buildings. Experts appreciated in this concept the original solution of the concert hall and the huge public space, where up to 15 thousand people can gather at the same time.
*** Institute "Gorproekt"
The architects tried to return the former attractiveness to the river facade of Irkutsk. Low-rise residential buildings create a comfortable, human-sized environment. It is proposed to reconstruct the boiler house building for the placement of the multifunctional complex. The project also provides for the revival of the Miracle-Working Church, which will be in visual connection with the Church of the Savior.
*** "Institute of Territorial Development"
The main idea of this project is to refuse to divide the territory into sections. All functional blocks are combined into a single structure. The authors envisioned public spaces of various significance and scale: from comfortable benches on the pier and cozy courtyards to the square in front of the concert hall. The concept of the hall was inspired by the pearl of Irkutsk - Lake Baikal.
